Fr. Jason Honored with Blessed Michael J. McGivney Award
Fr. Jason receives the Blessed Michael J. McGivney Award at the 121st Knights of Columbus Louisiana State Convention on May 2, 2026.
The Blessed Michael J. McGivney Award is a prestigious award that honors a Knights of Columbus chaplain who embodies priestly zeal and exemplary service. The award is named after Fr. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus founder and a key leader in Catholicism’s growth in America.
The ideal recipient is a dedicated parish priest who serves as a teacher of the faith, a model of charity and a promoter of Catholic fraternity and Christian family life.
St. Alphonsus Council #2807 nominated Fr. Jason to receive the award based on his pastoral contributions to all the parishes he’s served, including St. Joseph and St. Stephen.
Fr. Jason has made many positive impacts on his parishes, in both spiritual and material ways. He consistently shows up at the St. Alphonsus School, KC and Catholic Daughters events and meetings. He established the Catholic Daughters at St. Alphonsus to embrace the principle of working together for the greater good of all.
Fr. Jason loves taking his parishioners on pilgrimages and regularly plans trips for the youth groups in his parishes. Leading by example, he fosters a true culture of faith through action. He mentored Fr. Mathew Dunn, current pastor at LSU’s Christ the King, throughout his time in seminary and beyond.
Fr. Jason takes great pride in his churches and is always working on some type of improvement project to bring glory to God. While at St. Joseph in French Settlement, Fr. Jason built a baldacchino and sourced several statues of saints to line the church walls. At St. Stephen in Maurepas, he commissioned a mural for the ceiling and installed reliquaries featuring the blessed relics of several saints. He spent countless hours laying tile in the church halls and fitting stained glass windows. He built a new rectory, a new mausoleum and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel at Hilltop.
When he arrived at St. Alphonsus, Fr. Jason’s knack for renewal continued. He brought a new altar into the sanctuary and repositioned the tabernacle to it’s rightful place at the center. He had all sacred vessels cleaned and re-plated and refurbished the Stations of the Cross. During Lent, he founded an annual Good Friday Stations of the Cross Walk for the parish.
With his strong leadership, commitment to faith and dedication to his parishes, Fr. Jason exemplifies the spirit of Blessed Michael McGivney, whose acts of service empowered others to do the same.
Later this year, Fr. Jason will represent Louisiana at the Knights of Columbus Supreme Convention in Denver, Colorado.
